The village was made popular by the railway known as the Strawberry Line, because it passed close by the many strawberry growing fields on the south west facing slopes on the Cheddar side of the valley. "Strawberry Special" trains ferried the fruits to all parts of the country until the line was axed in 1965. Strawberries are still grown there today and, when in season, are available to buy from stalls on the roadside between Cheddar, Draycott, Rodney Stoke and Westbury-sub-Mendip. The line is now a long distance footpath. Today, the village and gorge provide shopping and leisure opportunities for all ages. The gorge is in the top 10 attractions nationally and is only 10 minutes walk away.
