A romantic retreat set in stunning surroundings in the 6,500 acres of Ashdown Forest, an area of remarkable natural beauty with amazing heathland views and endless walks – ideal for nature lovers and bird watchers.

The cottage is well positioned in the lovely Sussex  hamlet of Cackle Street, ideal for exploring the south coast resorts and marinas of Brighton, Seaford, and Eastbourne, all of which are within 25 miles. Take scenic walks straight from your doorstep along local trails that meander through the magnificent countryside or hop in the car and visit neighbouring Hever Castle and gardens (16 miles) or Sheffield Park with the Bluebell Railway (6 miles)  and no holiday would be complete without a trip to Pooh Sticks Bridge just 6 miles away.  Those interested in learning more about the local culture could attend Glyndebourne Opera House's world-famous summer concerts or visit Alfriston Clergy House, the National Trust's first acquisition (both within 20 miles). Bewl Water, near Wadhurst, is a lovely day out for walkers and bikers, with bike hire available to ride around the picturesque reservoir (20 miles).

When you walk through the front door of this cottage, which is set in the owner's grounds, you'll find yourself in the studio-style accommodation. Relax on the comfortable sofas and watch the TV or relax on the patio with a good book and a glass of something sparkling. Prepare a romantic meal in the kitchen, which features an electric oven and hob, as well as a coffee machine, microwave, integrated dishwasher, and a fridge with an ice compartment, and then enjoy supper at the dining table while discussing the day's events. After supper, there are board games, novels, local maps, and stationery to use, as well as a cosy wood burner-effect electric fire to enjoy. You can sleep soundly in the comfortable double bed. The cottage is completed by a shower with a walk-in shower and WC.

There is parking for two cars in front of the cottage, and a little west-facing lawned garden to the side with a patio and table and chairs for relaxing.

Really great cottage and peaceful countryside location. Very friendly and helpful owner who went beyond what you might expect from a cottage hire. Everything we needed was there, including some food basics. Highly entertaining garden with many different birds and a number of resident squirrels. Highly recommended and we certainly hope to return.
