Lovely refurbished cottage in the pretty village of Newby, in the Eden Valley. A great base for friends or family looking to explore Cumbria, the Lakes and the North Pennines.

The cottage is set in the friendly village of Newby, just 7 miles south of the market town of Penrith and 5 miles west of the historic town of Appleby in the peaceful Eden Valley. There are lots of opportunities to go cycling along quiet country roads, including the Lakes and Dales Loop for experienced cyclists. The route takes in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Eden Valley, Morecambe Bay, and West Cumbria. The Lake District National Park is just a short drive away, where you can walk the fells and discover the quieter northern lakes, take a trip on one of the Ullswater Steamers, go on a walking experience with an alpaca, or enjoy a tour of a boutique gin distillery.

After walking into the hallway, you will find the bright open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. In the lounge area, there is a Smart TV, an eco friendly bio-ethanol fire and comfy seating making this the perfect place to curl up of an evening. The kitchen area is well-equipped, with an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, nespresso machine and milk frother, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The dining area is where you can catch up over breakfast or dinner and plan the day ahead. Head up to the first floor and you will find two bedrooms, including a double with an en-suite bathroom with hand-held shower over bath, separate shower and WC. Next door there is a 3ft twin zip-and-link bedroom (which can be made up as a super-king-size on request), with en-suite shower room with a large shower and WC.

There is an enclosed, south-facing back garden with comfortable table and chairs; a great place to enjoy a morning coffee, read a good book or stargaze at night. There is also lockable storage in the heated drying room, where you’ll find a washing machine and Butler sink – this is suitable for bikes and walking kit, and can be accessed either from the garden or the front of the property. There is roadside parking outside the house (subject to availability), which is unrestricted.

We really enjoyed our stay at Rambler Rose. The cottage is very well designed and worked perfectly for the two of us and our dog, Milo. The garden is completely enclosed so we had peace of mind, letting Milo be in the garden. Equally we found that the kitchen was well provided for and the living area very comfortable. The bedrooms were also comfortRead moreable. The selection of books and games was also very appreciated. Big thanks to Claire for an excellent stay. Hide

A lovely cottage in a lovely location. The owner, Claire, made us feel immediately welcome with guest boxes for ourselves and our dog. The cottage was in a great setting that allowed us to explore the local villages and countryside as well as the lakes nearby [Ullswater just 7 miles away]. There was plenty to do and the cottage has been really niceRead morely renovated. It was a lovely place to return to at the end of the day and on cold evenings it was lovely to relax with the bioethanol fire. Hide
