Located close to Dixter, this 300 year old cottage is sympathetically decorated throughout, full to the brim with old world charm and makes a romantic getaway for two in the south east region of England.

Located in the East Sussex village of Northiam, the local area boasts popular pubs, antique shops, butchers and farm shops. It is also famously home to Great Dixter, Christopher Lloyd’s celebrated hall house and garden, which is well-worth a visit. Situated in the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, keen walkers will enjoy exploring the many footpaths, stopping at quaint villages for afternoon tea or a pub lunch along the way.

The front door opens into the charming lounge area, which features exposed beams, a large inglenook fireplace with comfortable sofa and an exposed brick wall. The kitchen beyond is compact but opens out to the garden and has everything you’ll need including an electric double oven with a grill, hob and overhead hood, microwave, fridge, freezer, and washing machine. Once you have finished preparing your meals, dine at the round oak gate-leg table that sits in the pretty dining area by the kitchen. Go up the steep turned stairs to the bedroom, which is extremely cosy and inviting, with exposed beams above and original pine floorboard below, and a cupboard with hanging space. Also on this floor is the stylish bathroom with bath with overhead shower next to the pretty cottage window, basin, mirror and WC also features original floorboards.

Outside, the cottage is approached via a pretty front garden, while the stunning pebbled garden at the rear of the house has been beautifully planted and features a handmade bench and cafe style table and chairs for al fresco dining.

We had an enjoyable stay at Elsies Cottage. The cottage is charming and picturesque.
